Maurizio Sarri has urged Napoli to “play with a bit of balls” once they host Actual Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Tuesday.
Madrid travel to Italy using a 3-1 lead despite initially falling behind in the Santiago Bernabeu and are firmly anticipated to progress to the quarter-finals as they appear to defend their crown.
But Napoli aren’t going to make it a comfortable trip and Sarri is hoping that his side play with guts in front of what exactly is confident to be a partisan crowd at Stadio San Paolo.
“It may possibly be that we’ll play using a bit of balls,” Sarri told reporters in the pre-match media conference.
“The game might be hard as a result of technical qualities that Real Madrid have, plus their fantastic physical qualities. But we’re united, now our common target will be to do well.
“The stress is all on Actual Madrid. They are the ones who are world champions and are expected to win. Even so, our fans are world champions and all of Europe will see that.
“Madrid will in all probability qualify, they have scored for 46 consecutive games but definitely we will try to produce it complicated for them.”
Napoli captain Marek Hamsik is also conscious of the task facing the Serie A side and has warned his team-mates that, even though they require to attack, they can’t shirk their defensive responsibilities.
“We’re a group that does not manage games,” Hamsik said.
