Laurent Blanc challenged Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to build on his recent displays.
Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic “can do substantially better”, as outlined by coach Laurent Blanc.
Ibrahimovic has started to return to type soon after a slow, and injury-interrupted, start off for the season.
The Sweden international has scored in back-to-back Ligue 1 matches ahead of Sunday’s clash at home to Marseille.
But Blanc believes the 34-year-old, who’s just a purpose behind PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer Pauleta, can do more than he has lately.
“I would like to give Ibra extra time on the pitch, as I gave a lot more time for you to all of the players who had been back using the team,” Blanc said.
“I believe Ibra can do a great deal greater, but I believe make him play a lot more might help him to have back on a leading level.
“For the rest on the next matches when the group remains with such very good good quality players, it will have competition among them. And I will preserve some players as Ibra.”
With 108 targets, Ibrahimovic is just 1 behind Pauleta ¨C who netted 109 times for PSG from 2003 to 2008.
